Following the official renderings released last month, Electra Meccanica has lifted the veils off the new Solo, during the Luxury and Supercar Weekend in Vancouver, Canada.

Priced from $15,500 and with the first deliveries expected in 2017, it uses a synchronous electric motor that generates 82 HP and 140 pound-feet (190 Nm) of torque. This is fed by a 16.1 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides a 100-mile (160 km) range and can recharge in roughly six hours from a 110-volt outlet, and in half the time on a 220-volt system.

“It has appeal for driving enthusiasts, practical commuters and the environmentally conscious. We believe the Solo will become the commuter vehicle of choice for the masses. The vehicle is non-polluting, very economical to operate and people will have a heck of a good time driving it too“, said Henry Reisner, the Canadian company’s COO.

Said to make the urban commute “more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly”, the Electra Meccanica Solo is 14 in (35.5 cm) longer than a Smart ForTwo and 19 in (48.3 cm) shorter than a Fiat 500, as it sits at 120 in (3.04 m) long, 50.5 in (1.28 m) tall and 47.6 in (1.21 m wide), with a wheelbase of 80.5 in (2.04 m).

It rides on 15-in aluminum alloy wheels in Anthracite Grey or Platinum Silver, which are shod in 155/60 front and 175/55 rear Continental all-season tires and it comes with a cargo space of 285 liters (10 cubic feet), similar to that of a Mercedes-Benz C300 Coupe (10.5 cubic feet).

Available in four primary colors, the Solo is equipped with bi-halogen headlights, DRLs, and heated side mirrors, along with an LCD instrument cluster, Bluetooth/USB, AM/FM stereo, optional air-con, window defogger, ventilation system, power windows, rearview camera, and keyless entry.
