The all-electric version of the refreshed VW Up city car is now available to order at dealerships around the UK.
The update includes a redesigned front bumper with unique C-shaped LED running lights integrated and a blue strip running between the headlights. The rear bumper is now more angular and includes a more prominent diffuser panel.
Power comes from an electric motor that produces 81hp (82PS) and 154lb ft (210Nm) of torque from zero rpm, allowing the new e-Up to accelerate from 0 to 62mph (0-100km/h) in 12.4 seconds and top out at 81mph (130km/h). Maximum driving range is set at 93 miles between charges.
The floor-mounted battery pack has a capacity of 18.7kWh and weighs 230kg but despite this, the e-Up weighs less than its internal combustion siblings, tipping the scales at just 1,139kg (2511lbs).
As for the charging time, VW reckons it will need nine hours for a full charge from a standard household plug, which drops to six hours if you use the optional wall box which provides a 3.6kW supply. A fast-charge connection cable which allows for an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes is included as standard.
Available only with a five-door body, the new VW e-Up is priced from £20,780, including the UK’s Plug-in Car Grant of £4,500. First deliveries are expected to begin in October with the car coming with a three-year warranty and its battery pack with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
