Ferrari has confirmed that it will build one final example of the LaFerrari to aid the victims of the deadly earthquake that hit the center of Italy on August 24.
Road and Track reports that the news was announced by company chairman and chief executive Sergio Marchionne in Maranello. This extra LaFerrari will push production from the original 499 units to the 500 mark and once built, it will be auctioned off.
While it isn’t yet known when the car will be sold, this isn’t the first time Ferrari has extended production of a limited-run model. In fact, the company famously produced a 400th example of the Enzo for Pope John Paul II. It was later sold to an American collector and all the money donated for humanitarian relief. That final Enzo has since gone on to become the world’s most valuable, selling for $6.05 million last year.
The earthquake which shook Italy a week ago killed almost 250 people, injured thousands and left small towns in ruins.
