There’s a good reason why Jackie Stewart referred to the Nurburgring as ‘Green Hell‘; it’s one of the world’s most stunningly beautiful, yet dangerous racetracks.
What makes the circuit particularly remarkable and precarious is that it’s open to the public throughout much of the year and sees experienced and in-experienced drivers jostling for the same pavement in wildly different cars.
Case in point, this tiny Ford Fiesta almost causing a Ferrari 458 Speciale to crash around a left corner.
Initially, the blue Fiesta driver can be seen doing exactly the right thing, staying off the racing line and letting four cars quickly go past. From there, things go completely wrong.
For some unknown reason, the driver aggressively turns to the left, cutting across the track at an almost 90-degree angle. Unbeknownst to the driver, a white 458 was approaching from behind and forced to slam on the brakes and swerve on to the grass to avoid the hatchback, coming just inches from clipping its front end.
Strangely, the Fiesta driver doesn’t change direction once, even after the Ferrari comes sliding past. In fact, it can be seen dawdling along the grass run-off as if it was a ride-on lawnmower.
