Ford announced that the Fiesta ST is now for the first time available to order in Europe with a five-door bodystyle, next to the regular three-door model.
The two extra doors give the Ford Fiesta ST a few more practicality points, thanks to the easier access to the back seats while retaining the performance and its class-leading handling characteristics, making a better candidate for keen drivers with small children in the family.
Powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, the Ford Fiesta ST offers 179hp (182PS) and 177lb-ft (240Nm) of peak torque. This allows for the small performance Ford model to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 6.9 seconds while returning an average of 46.3 mpg UK (6.1lt/100km) of fuel consumption. CO2 emissions are rated at 141g/km.
The chassis features all the performance enhancements known from the three-door model, including an optimized suspension, steering and brakes and there is also a Torque Vectoring Control system, which uses the brakes on the inside front wheel during cornering to improve grip and reduce understeer.
“Ford has now sold more than 38,000 Fiesta STs in Europe since we introduced the acclaimed hot hatchback in 2013, and growing numbers of customers have been asking us for a five-door version,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “The Fiesta ST with five doors makes an affordable Ford Performance driving experience accessible to an even greater number of customers.”
Pricing for the new five-door version of the Ford Fiesta ST starts from £19,495 in the UK. Ford estimates that around 25 per cent of Fiesta ST sales in Europe will account for the five-door body.
