Remember when AMG was still producing the Black Series? Its members were the most hardcore of performance Benzes.

Unfortunately, Mercedes hasn’t come out with a new one since 2013, but if you’ve been looking to pick one up, or just admire the insanity that was, RM Sotheby’s has three of them lined up for its next big event.

Consigned for its upcoming auction in London, RM has one each of the AMG Black Series versions of the SLS, SL65 and C63. The trio comes “from the private collection of a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast,” whose identity remains undisclosed.

The oldest of the triplets could be the most compelling, and the result of the most complete transformation in the entire line. The hardcore SL65 AMG Black Series packs Affalterbach’s 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 – but instead of the 621 horsepower you’d find in the current SL65, S65 or G65 today, the Black Series boasted a massive 670 hp. It also ditched the heavy folding roof mechanism for a fixed tin top, along with a stiffer suspension, upgraded brakes, stripped-out interior… the works.

After the SL65, AMG produced Black Series versions of the C63 and SLS, and RM Sotheby’s has one of each available in London as well. Both are arguably the ultimate incarnations of the coupes on which they’re based. Each packs AMG’s gone-but-not-forgotten, big-bore 6.2-liter V8, producing 510 hp in the C63 and 622 hp in the SLS. They were essentially road-going versions of their respective DTM and GT3 competition models, detuned ever so slightly for use on the road – and still yet to be surpassed (at least in terms of horsepower) by the C63 S and GT R models that have since taken their places.

Enticed? You’d better bring your checkbook to the British capital next week, because each is expected to sell well into six figures. The auctioneer estimates the value of the SL65 between £145,000 and £205,000 ($190-270k), the C63 between £115,000 and £150,000 ($150-200k), and the SLS between £320,000 and £415,000 ($420-550k). Budget a full million and with a bit of luck you could take home all three, then just hunt for examples of SLK55 and CLK63 that preceded them in the Black Series and you’ll have the whole collection.

For our part, we’ll be waiting patiently for Mercedes to bring the Black Series back with a new model worthy of the name. In the meantime we can admire the images captured by Tim Scott for RM Sotheby’s.
