There have been several rumors of BMW possibly working on a more potent version of the M2 Coupe, but we’ve yet to get an official word on it.
Now, some believe this prototype that was filmed on the (in)famous Nurburgring wearing bits of vinyl stickers on the front and rear bumpers, fenders and doors, is that car, which may adopt a CS moniker.
Along with more aggressive body work, the rumored M2 CS is said to gain the more potent S55 six-cylinder engine from the M3/M4, instead of a tweaked version of the M2’s 365hp 3.0L six. In the M3 and M4, the unit is good for 425 horsepower, but on the smaller model, it could be slightly de-tuned to around 400 HP to keep some distance from the more expensive models.
This would place the BMW M2 CS against the likes of the latest Audi TT RS, which has 394 horsepower, and trim down its 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint that normally takes 4.5 seconds (4.3 sec with the optional seven-speed DCT gearbox). Now that’s a good recipe to make some enthusiasts let go of the 1M and take the hotter M2 instead.
