It has been revealed that last month’s devastating floods across Louisiana damaged around 100,000 insured vehicles.

Shockingly, the number of uninsured vehicles damaged by the floods is thought to be double that, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Automotive News reports that insured flood damaged vehicles in Louisiana are towed and auctioned off with a new title. Approximately half of these vehicles are ultimately repaired and return to the streets while the remaining ones are often crushed or sold for parts.

Numerous car dealerships were also hit hard by the floods. In fact, it is thought that up to 80 dealers were forced to close because of the floods and a selection lost their entire inventory’s because of the record-high water levels.

Beyond damaging hundreds of thousands of cars, the floods caused damage to over 60,000 homes and claimed the lives of 13 people.
