Hyundai intends on introducing a brand new hydrogen fuel cell model in 2018 priced at half that of the existing Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell.

The Korea Herald says the car was announced at a national alliance event held in South Korea aiming to promote the government’s goal of having 10,000 fuel cell vehicles on its roads by 2020.

Details, such as what body style it will adopt and how it will cost half that of the Tucson Fuel Cell (as alleged) remain unknown and the only thing we know is it will reportedly have a range of up to 373 miles (600 km), a dramatic improvement over the 258 mile (415 km) range of the Tucson.

Local pricing is expected to sit at around 60 million won (~$54,000), but after the local subsidies are applied that figure will drop significantly to about 32.5 million won (~$29,000).

In the United States, the Tucson FCV is only available on a three-year lease, costing $499 per month plus a $2,999 down payment. If the new fuel cell model from Hyundai is to make it to the U.S., a price similar to the near $60,000 MSRP of the Toyota Mirai is to be expected.
