Infiniti has ruled out the potential for offering a convertible version of the Q60 to rival the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 4-Series.

While speaking with Car Advice, the company’s global senior manager of product strategy Gerardo Carmona said that when developing the Q60, Infiniti was so committed to making it better than the G37 that it didn’t want to divert its attention into developing a selection of variants.

“We’re focusing only on the coupe version… a convertible is off the table for the moment. Convertible volumes are pretty small, and we wanted to be focused on making a big improvement on the car.

“As you know, the 2002 first generation [G35] to the second one [G37], there was not a very dramatic change on the car, and we did not want that to happen again. We wanted to really launch a dramatically different Q60, therefore all the efforts went into this one instead of thinking about other variants,” Carmona said.

Power for the Q60 comes courtesy of a brand new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine available in two different states of tune, 300 hp and 400 hp. While customers in the U.S. can choose between the two power outputs, Europe only receives the 400 hp derivative.
