While it’s true that some sports car or supercar owners do tend to make a lot of noise at rather inappropriate times, others can be targeted specifically because they drive an exotic.
The 610 PS Lamborghini Huracan definitely qualifies as an exotic, and regardless of who you ask, its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine is considered loud whether you have it at idle after a cold start or you’re just giving it a little throttle.
Mark Trueno, the owner of this green Huracan, was stopped by police outside the Normanby Hotel in Brisbane, Australia last year, when he received a $376 AUD ticket for making unnecessary noise in the $485,000 AUD Italian supercar.
Last week however, a Brisbane Magistrate sided with Mr Trueno and overturned the fine, with his lawyer arguing that it’s “too easy for police to just throw random accusations and allegations against drivers”.
Furthermore, witnesses were even called during the two day hearing, including a representative from Lamborghini Brisbane, who went on record to describe the Huracan’s engine noise as “beautiful music.”
Despite the legal fees costing Mr Trueno no fewer than $1,500 AUD, he explained that it was a matter of principle and that he’s glad the Magistrate understood that Lamborghinis are, generally speaking, loud cars.
“I’m pretty glad that the Magistrate sort of saw through what the police officer was saying,” stated Trueno, before adding that “sometimes it’s not about the money, it’s about making sure that you stick to your principles.”
