Subaru has confirmed that the next-generation XV Crosstrek will remain largely the same as the outgoing model.
The revelations of the new car’s similarities to its predecessor were announced by the company’s project senior manager for the product and portfolio planning division at Fuji Heavy Industries, Masahiko Inoue, while speaking with Car Advice.
“[It will be the] same level as current Impreza and XV. The idea is the same – next-generation Impreza, next-generation XV. Same concept, up and cute, higher road clearance, and some cladding, and some cute colours,” Inoue said.
Inoue went on to reveal that the new car will have almost the same body as the current model and that it will only be distinguishable due to some additional body cladding and bumpers.
“Body is the same, basically the same. Some cladding or something, bumpers. Same body. This one [the current Crosstrek] is a very exciting shape, with same body.” he confirmed.
Earlier in the year, Subaru unveiled the XV Concept as a precursor to the new Crosstrek. That model was adorned in a host of elements, including the lights, to give it a dramatically different look to the current Impreza.
Despite this, it seems the Japanese firm is opting to remain conservative for the new model, once again making it essentially an Impreza with more ground clearance.
