Nissan has found a problem with the ABS actuator pumps on some of its vehicles leaking brake fluid onto an electrical circuit board. As any high school graduate could tell you, liquid meeting electricity is bad news, so the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for the affected vehicles.
The issue is isolated to a select number of 2016-17 Maxima sedans and 2015-17 Murano crossovers – specifically those equipped with the optional Intelligent Cruise Control system, as well as the 2015-16 Murano Hybrid.
All told, the estimated scope of the recall in the United States comes to 120,329 vehicles. To fix it, owners will be asked to bring their vehicles in to their local dealership to have their ABS actuators inspected, and if necessary, replaced.
A timeframe for the recall campaign has yet to be identified, but if you’re driving one of the affected vehicles, keep an eye on the ABS warning light when starting up the vehicle. If it stays on for longer than ten seconds after ignition, park the car outside and away from other vehicles or structures.
