Pagani has been spotted conducting high speed tests of the potent Huayra BC at the Nurburgring in a possible attempt to set a new production car lap record.

After yesterday’s Industry Pool testing session, the track remained open exclusively for the hardcore Huayra to set some laps and it was filmed at one of the track’s most famous corners, the Carousel.

As it can often take months for automakers to finely tune their vehicles for record-attempting laps, it’s unlikely Pagani clocked a sub-7 minute lap in yesterday’s tests. But that’s not to say it doesn’t have a lap time to beat the Porsche 918 Spyder on its to-do list.

In terms of power, the Huayra BC falls well short of the 918’s combined 887 hp with its 6.0-liter AMG twin-turbo V12 delivering ‘just’ 789 hp. However, the BC weighs a mere 1,218 kg (2,685 pounds) whereas the 918 Spyder hit the scales at a portly 1,678 kg (3,700 pounds). The Italian also has some serious downforce-generating features across the exterior.

Pagani isn’t the only niche carmaker working at a Nurburgring record. Swedish rival Koenigsegg is doing exactly the same with the One:1 hypercar which despite recently crashing at the track, is being repaired and will return to ‘Green Hell’ in another record attempt.
