It’s not everyday that you wake up to see an endurance racer on the streets but in London, that’s exactly what happened early yesterday morning.
In a promotional event, Porsche took its Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid race car on public streets for the very first time with current World Endurance Champion Mark Webber behind the wheel. Joining Webber and the 919 was the brand new Panamera E-Hybrid, also making its on-street debut.
Although the roads of Britain’s capital city weren’t closed for Porsche’s adventures, the near-priceless race car was flanked by a host of police vehicles as it ventured past famed cites like Parliament Square, Regent Street, Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and the London Eye.
In the 2016 World Endurance Championship, the 919 Hybrid has claimed victory at five of the six races held so far, putting the marque in the box-seat to claim back-to-back championship titles.
The innovative racer receives its grunt from a 2.0-liter turbocharged V4 engine delivering 500 hp and mated to an electric motor providing an extra 400 hp.
