Where the outgoing model and the smaller Discovery Sport feature third-row seats really only suitable to small children, the upcoming new Discovery is set to incorporate seven full-size seats for seven full-size adults. Not just that, but they’ll be electrically operated and remotely deployable via smartphone app. And Land Rover has proven itself willing to go to extremes to show off the new feature.

In order to demonstrate how the remotely operated, motorized folding seats work, the manufacturer sent famed adventurer (and Land Rover spokesman) Bear Grylls up in an airplane along with six paratroopers from the Royal Navy.

While they sky-dove down to the Discovery prototype awaiting (but camouflaged) on the ground, Grylls deployed the second- and third-row seats via smartphone strapped to his wrist, demonstrating just how well the feature works. Once on the ground, they all piled into the SUV and off they went.

Following the head-on exterior image revealed yesterday, this is the second in what we can be sure will be a long string of teasers Land Rover will release between now and the vehicle’s unveiling. That’s scheduled to take place on September 28 ahead of the Paris Motor Show.
