The Lamborghini Huracan is one of the world’s quickest accelerating production cars. As a matter of fact, independent tests have returned 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint times in the 2.5-2.6 second region, making it fast than the Aventador in the perfect conditions.
Logically then, one would expect it to out-accelerate any sedan on the market. Unless you’re talking about the Tesla Model S P100D which as we know, is now ordinary five-door family car.
Tesla itself claims the Model S is the world’s quickest accelerating production car currently on the market, boasting an official 0-96 km/h (60 mph) sprint of 2.5 seconds. Unlike the Huracan, the P100D can achieve times in that region time after time, as long as the 100 kWh battery pack is fully charged.
So then, when pitted together on a regular highway, which is the fastest off the line? Drag Times recently set out to discover just that by lining the duo up for a number of drag races.
As we’ve come to expect, the instant torque of the Model S makes it unbeatable out of the gate, even with the Huracan’s launch control system enabled. With that being said, the Italian isn’t far off and does eventually catch and overtake the Tesla beyond 200 km/h (124 mph).
Can any supercar with an internal combustion engine beat the Model S P100D? The only two we think have a serious chance are the Porsche 918 Spyder and Bugatti Chiron, so here’s hoping we can see those to battling out the American sedan in the near future.
