They might not look like much, but bed-liners are a must-have when it comes to protecting a truck’s bed. And watermelons.
Bed liners are nothing more than protective covers that shield the bed of a truck from dents, scratches, elements, and so on. There are two types of bed liners: Spray-on and drop-in. While the latter is similar to floor mats – being easily removed – the spray-on variants require a specific preparation before applying them, and can adhere to a variety of materials, and… things. Including watermelons, apparently.
The most common spray-on polyurethane is Line-X, and this video by How Ridiculous shows us just how strong the compound is by dropping a watermelon covered in it from a 45 meters (150 feet) distance.
Surprisingly, the fruit doesn’t obliterate in a trillion pieces (like the normal one), but rather bounces off the asphalt. The protective coating suffered absolutely no damage, and although the watermelon inside disintegrated, it’s skin held up great.
That settles it, if you want your vehicle to be more resistant, make sure it comes with Line-X covered parts, but please don’t try to throw it off a tower because the bed-liner won’t help very much in that case.
