While Australia’s automotive manufacturing industry is winding down, Holden’s Elizabeth factory in Adelaide has received a boost after an additional 1,000 Chevrolet SS models were ordered from the United States, reports Perth Now.
The left-hand drive models are based around Australia’s very own VF11-generation Holden Commodore and exported to the U.S. where they receive the Chevrolet badge.
On the back of this large order, Holden has made the decision to slow the process of making its local employees redundant. Now, redundancies will be staggered throughout October and November, two weeks later than originally expected, giving current employees a little more time to plan their next career move.
Speaking of the demand for the VF11 Commodore, a spokesman from the automaker said “The reception from buyers and motoring critics is something that the Australian VF Commodore development team and our Elizabeth manufacturing team are very proud of.”
As we recently discovered, the Chevrolet SS is quite a compelling package, particularly thanks to its 415 hp, 6.2-liter V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission.
