Further details about Volkswagen’s impending electric car concept for the Paris Auto Show have emerged, revealing that the model will preview a rival to the Chevrolet Bolt and BMW i3.
Autocar asserts that the model will be a hatchback which externally, will be slightly smaller than the Golf. In the cabin however, space will be similar to that of the larger Volkswagen Passat.
It is also thought that the model will preview a sporting design language set to be adopted by Volkswagen’s future range of electric models, which in the coming years, could include as many as five battery-powered vehicles.
As with January’s Budd-e concept, the Paris-bound show car will also be underpinned by the firm’s modular electric architecture which will support scalable electric motors, axles and suspension. Specifics about the setup of the Paris concept are minimal but according to VW brand boss Herbert Diess, it will have a range between 400 and 600 km (250-370 miles), comfortably more than its future rivals.
Following its Paris debut, the car can be expected to arrive in global markets in 2020, one year after the production version of the Budd-e.
