The hot hatch debate continues with the mighty Ford Focus RS bringing the war on the VW Golf R’s door step.
We are fortunate to live in an era where range-topping versions of economy hatches offer insane performance levels, making them as fast (if not faster) from a supercar on a good winding back road.
The VW Golf R is a universally loved car, proving to everyone just how brilliant its chassis really is with the help of a turbocharged 300hp 2.0-litre engine. With all four wheels responsible for transmitting the power to the road, this Golf is one of the best all-around packages in the market right now, offering a really nice ride quality and NVH levels during every-day driving, combined with great handling and nice burbles coming out of the exhausts.
The Ford Focus RS on the other hand approaches the whole hot-hatch concept with much more aggression. The 2.3-litre engine makes no less than 345hp that’s been sent to a very sophisticated all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring, allowing the mighty Ford to enable its rear axle much more actively than any other competitor. It’s certainly refreshing to see a new hatchback these days so focused on driving fun.
So which is the one to get? Motor Trend is announcing their verdict on the latest Head2Head video.
