After announcing their new addition in the XF range by releasing the image of a camouflaged prototype, Jaguar was caught testing the Sportbrake wagon version during a rainy, foggy day at the Nurburgring.
Premium stylish wagons are making a comeback apparently, with models like the Volvo V90 and the Mercedes E-Class Estate already available. Jaguar will, however, focus more on the style and less on offering the best-possible practicality.
The engine range is going to mirror that of the regular XF which uses the latest Ingenium family of four- and six-cylinder mills. The prototype shown in the images is the more powerful S version with the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 pumping out 381hp. The big air intakes and the red brake calipers are clear giveaways of the prototype’s sporting credentials.
Jaguar is also planning to offer the Sportbrake version of the XF in a hotter R, or even SVR, version later in order to rival the likes of the Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate and Audi RS6 Avant.
Jaguar will officially reveal the XF Sportbrake sometime next year, with the US market also bound to get it.
