Porsche’s rally adventures are well documented but having a classic ‘80s 911 lifted just for the fun of it must be one of the most surprising things to hear.
With values of the previous air-cooled 911 generations constantly rising, this sort of tampering becomes even more impressive as people these days treat their classic Porsches more like investments than sports cars meant to be driven.
Professional racing driver Leh Keen is not your typical Porsche owner though. He started with a 1981 911 SC model, powered by a 204hp 3.0-litre flat-six paired to a five-speed manual. He then installed long-travel shocks and upgraded torsion bars to achieve a 4-inch lift. The car also received a set of proper offroad tires mounted on Fuchs wheels, shaved mirrors, proper rally fog lights and of course the necessary mud flaps.
The result is one of the most easy and predictable 911s to drive fast and enjoy, with the car’s behavior dominated by ‘predictable oversteer’ which is of course the greatest thing in the whole world.
