Big saloons weren’t Alfa Romeo’s strong suit, but with the company having right now a proper platform at their disposal, creating a new flagship to scare models like the BMW 5-Series and the Volvo S90 is an opportunity not to be missed.

Alfa Romeo is in the middle of making a comeback right now, with the new Giulia being launched in many markets and the upcoming SUV, rumored to be called Stelvio, also getting ready for its first public outing.

There have been multiple reports saying that the Italians were indeed going to further expand the brand’s range with a mid-size sedan, which could revive the Alfetta nameplate.

The new model would share the same RWD platform with the Giulia and the Stelvio SUV, as well as most of the powertrains, including the 2.9-liter biturbo V6 used in the Quadrifoglio. Given that Alfa Romeo is going to officially jump on the ‘electrification’ bandwagon starting 2018, it’s possible for the new Alfetta to be the first model to benefit from the new hybrid powertrains, too.

The render we have here uses the styling elements first introduced in the Giulia, and the end result is both muscular and elegant despite the larger dimensions of the body. If the saloon eventually gets the green light, it will be interesting to see how Alfa Romeo positions it in the market, given that sister company Maserati is already present in the segment with the Ghibli.
