The interior of the 2017 BMW 5-Series has been spied with absolutely no camouflage ahead of the model’s unveiling on October 13, thanks to Indian Autos Blog.
As expected, the cabin of the new 5-Series is almost identical to that of its bigger brother, the 7-Series. In fact, numerous parts appear to be exactly the same, a massive win for prospective buyers of the cheaper 5-Series.
Ignoring the massive screen of this prototype, the center console of the G30 5-Series includes a similar gear selector to the 7-Series as well as the same central rotary dial. The air conditioning, heating and radio control are also remarkably similar to those of the 7-Series, as are the central air vents.
Compared to the outgoing 5-Series, we can also see that the new car has a redesigned infotainment screen which now sits on top of the dashboard rather than being incorporated into it. Unsurprisingly, it’s just like the 7-Series.
Other similar components include the steering wheel and semi-digital gauge clusters.
Compared to the latest-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, its two massive digital displays and S-Class styling, the new 5-Series’ cabin seems uninspiring, bland and behind the times.
We have our fingers crossed the car delivers from a technology and performance standpoint.
