What do you get when you combine rain, a very powerful supercar and the Nurburgring? A potential lethal combination, that’s what.

Over the weekend, an Audi R8 V10 Plus driver recently experienced just how dangerous the famed German circuit can be, coming just milliseconds away from crashing the prized mid-engined supercar.

The entire incident was captured on film and shows the moment the R8 begins to aquaplane as soon as the wheels are turned for a slight left hand bend.

Immediately, the rear-end of the all-wheel drive weapon steps out, forcing the driver to immediately apply some opposite lock to help keep the car on the straight and narrow.

It continues to slide after the corner and when on a short strip of tarmac, the driver hits the brakes, kicking out the tail the other way. Thankfully, enough speed was wiped off, allowing the driver to retain control. Unless all the systems were turned off, there’s a good chance the traction and stability controls helped out massively as well.

Making the near miss all the more eyebrow-raising is the fact that the R8 in question appears to be the limited-run ‘Selection 24h‘, one of just 24 units produced.
