It goes without saying that you should not text while behind the wheel and your full attention should be dedicated to the task at hand. An advice that many do not follow, but this incident in Australia is on another level altogether.
The woman driving this VW Golf didn’t seem at all bothered when the officer pulled up next to her, nor when he started blasting his sirens while in pursuit. She only stopped because there was traffic ahead and, according to the description of the video, didn’t have any idea of what was going on and she was still using the phone when the officer got alongside her car the second time.
“When are you going to stop for me?” asked the officer the second he caught up with the car. At that point, we would have been really curious to hear everything she had to say, though unfortunately that’s where the footage stops.
Using a mobile phone while driving in Australia can usually land you three demerit points and a fine of more than $400. We don’t know if that’s what happened in this particular instance, but doing something so reckless, we doubt the lady had much luck talking her way out of a fine.
