Although it has been effectively replaced by the F12tdf, the 599 GTO remains one of the craziest cars built in Maranello in recent memory.
Not only is it just the third Ferrari to be adorned with the famed GTO badge, but at the time of its launch, it was the brand’s fastest ever model, lapping the Fiorano test circuit a full second faster than the Enzo.
Its naturally-aspirated 6.0-liter V12 engine produces 661 hp at an stratospheric 8,250 rpm and 620 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque at 6,500 rpm. That results in a 0-100 km/h time of 3.35 seconds and a top speed exceeding 335 km/h (208 mph).
Naturally, the F12tdf beats these numbers, but to this day, the 599 GTO screams like no other Ferrari before it or produced since. When revved, the howl generated by the V12 is so mechanical and so unadulterated that it’s little wonder why pristine examples are now fetching up to $1 million.
