An exceptionally rare Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren MSO Edition is currently up for sale from a German dealership with a price tag that’ll make your eyes water.
Stickered at 9,999,999 euros ($10.8 million) on Mobile, the vehicle is easily the most expensive modern Mercedes we’ve come across.
So, what makes the MSO Edition of the SLR special? Well for starters, only 25 examples were manufactured by McLaren Special Operations who, after the SLR’s production run finished, thought the model needed some more ‘McLaren’ flair and performance.
As such, the engine was tweaked to include large radiators and a ceramic-coated exhaust system was installed. While these modifications don’t increase power from the 5.4-liter supercharged V8, they do give it a unique character.
Elsewhere, the chassis of the SLR has been overhauled. The spring rates have changed, the steering has been revised and downforce increased by 15 per cent over the SLR 722 Edition. There’s also numerous styling changes to give the car a truly unique persona.
When MSO was offering its upgrades to SLR owners, it was charging just over 130,000 euros ($141,000), on top of the current going rate for a stock SLR of around 250,000 euros ($272,000). All told, this is a car that costs just over $400,000.
Thus, the $11 million asking price looks overly optimistic, to say the least, even for such a rare car.
