The BMW Z3M Roadster was considered something like a modern take on the Shelby Cobra, thanks to its compact size and rather healthy figures portrayed on its specs list.
This particular 2001 example is one of the 1,600 US models and is described as being in stock condition, having covered 81,000 miles since new.
Instead of being what someone would call a garage queen, this compact German roadster has been driven around and enjoyed as it’s supposed to, but always taken care of properly. The car comes with service records and a clean Carfax report, with its short-term second owner auctioning it off over at BringATrailer right now.
It was recently serviced with a new clutch and flywheel, rebuilt shift linkage and an oil change. The Estoril Blue paintwork benefited from a recent multi-step correction, showing an even shine across the body. The standard five-spoke alloys have also been refinished in the factory color.
These models have gained a strong following over the recent years, thanks to their exciting handling character, their good looks and of course the badge on them. Don’t forget that the straight-six S54 3.2-litre usually found in the E46 M3 had a much lighter body to carry around in the Z3M Roadster.
Unlike though the M3, the Z3M Roadster has a five-speed manual gearbox due to packaging. This of course didn’t matter when it came to straight-line performance, with BMW’s small M Roadster capable of a 0-62mph in the low 5s.
If you want a truly exciting two-seater drop-top with some proper pedigree behind it, we strongly suggest taking a closer look at it while you can. If it’s indeed as properly maintained as described, you can’t really lose money with a car like this.
