Honda Recalls 350,000 2016 Civics For E-Brake Issue

Honda’s American division has announced a recall for all locally-delivered 2016 Civic Coupe and Sedan models for an issue regarding the electric parking brake.

The issue revolves around the software for the Vehicle Stability Assist Electronic Control Unit which may prevent the parking brake from being applied straight after the vehicle’s ignition is turned off.

Although a brake warning indicator in the instrument panel will illuminate and blink for 15 seconds if the parking brake isn’t applied, the vehicle may roll away if the parking gear is not selected by the driver.

The issue was discovered after warranty claims regarding the brake warning light and thankfully, no crashes or injuries related to the issue have been reported.

To fix the problem, the Japanese automaker will update the software of the ECU. Affected owners will be notified by mail beginning in early November.
