Kia is hard at work putting the final touches to its extensively modified Niro set to debut at SEMA 2016 next week.
On the firm’s Facebook page, it says that it “wanted to make a car as tough and versatile as a triathlete with the comfort of a day spa.” While that’s a somewhat strange explanation of the car, it does offer an insight into the final creation as does the extensive gallery showcasing the build process.
The most significant modification to the Niro has been the overhauled tailgate which no longer has a rear window and traditional trunk and instead features a pickup truck-like bed. The rear then includes a prominent cut-out where a section of a bicycle wheel is able to slot into, allowing the Niro to carry a bike hanging off the tailgate.
Further tweaks to the Niro’s exterior include gloss black paint instead of the vehicle’s original silver finish, as well as bright yellow accents.
Inside is where the ‘day spa’ part of the project appears to come in with lush new materials covering most interior surfaces including the center console and seats. One of the seats also appears to be totally bespoke with two separate cushions and a leg support.
Stay tuned for more about Kia’s custom Niro creation in the coming days.
