An amazing clip showing a BMW M4 DTM racer hooning around the Nurburgring has just been released and it’s easily be the coolest video you’ll see all day.
Captured for a promotional video for Shell Helix oil, the truly insane footage shows the M4 DTM completing a Bridge to Grantry lap in a blistering 6 minutes and 14 seconds, despite the driver not pushing it to the limits across the entirety of the 20.8 km course.
On paper, the M4 DTM doesn’t seem as fast as it really is. After all, it ‘only’ produces 480 hp due to the air restrictor required for competition use. What makes the car so fast is its aerodynamic downforce.
Although DTM team’s don’t publicize just how much downforce their cars create, a figure in the region of 1000 kg / 2,000lbs at top speed is widely reported, almost enough to allow the racers to drive upside down.
As a result, it’s not surprising how the driver in this clip, Augusto Farfus, is able to hustle the car around technical corners without letting off the accelerator.
