A 17-year old girl was arrested and sentenced to two years of juvenile detention after she and a male accomplice held up a man in Seattle for the keys to his 2007 BMW X5.
According to Seattle PI, the incident took place on August 2nd in the 5300 block of 16th Avenue South, which is where the owner of the car was held up at gunpoint as the thieves took the keys of his SUV as well as $600 in cash.
However, just as the man was doing what he was instructed to do (which was to get on the ground and stay there), the robbers proceeded to exit the vehicle after needing about 20 or 30 seconds in order to realize they couldn’t put the car in reverse.
The victim was then forced to explain the process to them, thus allowing them to pull away and escape with his car – which ended up hitting a fire hydrant as the robbers were trying to evade Seattle PD.
The girl was the only occupant of the car at the time, and even though she told officers that there was nobody with her when she committed the carjacking, prosecutors eventually charged a 15-year old boy as well. His case is still awaiting resolution, while the girl pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and was sentenced to 103 to 129 weeks of detention.
