Subaru is recalling a select number of 2017 Legacy and Outback models in the United States after an issue with the knee guard bracket was discovered.
The marque reports that the knee guard bracket may not be properly aligned to the steering beam assembly. This means that if the driver is not wearing a seatbelt in the event of a crash, the knee guard may not be able to restrain the driver’s lower body, therefore increasing the risk of injury.
The affected models were produced between September 21, 2016 and September 23, 2016 and while no exact figure has been released confirming how many vehicles are affected, it is expected to be just a few dozen.
To resolve the issue, Subaru will inspect the knee guard welding on the steering beam and if necessary, replace the beam free of charge.
Affected owners can contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783 quoting recall number WTL-72.
