By signing a new contract with his current team, Sergio Perez has finally ended weeks of speculation regarding his future.
Perez took to social media in order to thank all the teams that were interested in his services, saying that he was flattered by all the attention and that it will push him to “be strong and continue besting myself as a driver.”
The Mexican, currently eighth in the driver’s standings with 74 points, also added that he’s happy with Force India and that he has a good feeling about the future.
“I’ve seen the progress we’ve made over the last couple of years and I’m sure we have the potential to achieve even more going forward. The team knows me well and it’s important to have stability, especially with some big rule changes planned for next year. I’m excited for the rest of this season and for the challenge that awaits all of us in 2017,” added the F1 star.
Next year will also mark the fourth successive season where Force India will field the same line-up of drivers in Perez and Hulkenberg, and with Renault (one of the teams interested in his services) still struggling to find their bearings, it’s no wonder Perez chose stability over uncertainty – especially since uncertainty is what awaits all teams next year.
