Skoda UK has teamed up with British adventurer Alastair Humphreys to go in search of the Yeti.

Part of Bhutanese folklore since the late 1700s, the creature, which is thought to be part-man, part-animal, has been the subject of numerous expeditions over the past 200 years, which started after high-profile sightings that remain unexplained up to this day.

Working under the direction of Alastair Humphreys, the Skoda team will begin their journey in Samdrup, Jonkhar, southeast Bhutan, from where it will travel up north for more than 300 miles (483 km), climing to an altitude of 3,530 meters (11,581 feet). The expedition will see the team tackle the harsh terrain of the 162,000 acre Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, where the Yeti is thought to reside, and will be backed up by a several local experts who will act as guides.

I’m excited to be part of this expedition with Skoda. Bhutan’s surroundings are some of the most beautiful in the world, and we’ll seek to uncover the stories of the Yeti within these communities. I’m pretty certain nowhere else on earth can claim to have a sanctuary for an apparently mythical creature, and that is a fascinating adventure to be part of“, Alastair Humphreys said. “Whether the Yeti exists or not may always be a mystery, but what is true is the strong belief that the people of Bhutan have in the creature.

Challenging some of the toughest roads in the country will be a fleet of Skoda Yeti Outdoor vehicles, which will be used to carry the expedition members and their equipment. All units benefit from standard multi-plate four-wheel drive system and feature the brand’s optional off-road package, which adds additional protection to the underside.
