Powered by a new Euro 6-compliant turbo-diesel engine, the new Musso pickup features a 1 tonne payload, 3 tonne towing capability and it’s all for the price of £15,995 ex VAT, with sales set to begin this month.
According to SsangYong, due to its towing capability and competitive pricing, the Musso is ideal for pulling a work/boat trailer, or a horse box.
“Our commercial vehicles represent an intrinsic part of the SsangYong range, and we decided to reintroduce the Musso name to differentiate this superb utility truck from our passenger cars” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK. “Musso – which means rhinoceros in Korean – is a tough, robust proposition for any trade, and with a specification, price and warranty no others can compete with.”
The 2.2-liter diesel packs 178 PS and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, with the latter available from 1,400 rpm to 2,800 rpm. There’s also a multi-link rear suspension and progressive rear coil springs, making this the only pickup at this price range to offer such a setup.
The range consists of two models, the Musso SE and EX. The former comes with a new-look front grille and dashboard, as well as silver 18″ alloys and a “leather look” TPU seat upholstery. As for the better-spec’d EX, it’s distinguished by black 18″ alloys, roof rails, front LED daytime running lights, leather heated front seats, powere operated driver’s seat, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and a 7″ touchscreen with iPod & Bluetooth connectivity.
The EX with a manual transmission is priced at £17,995 ex VAT, whereas the model featuring the six-speed Aisin automatic costs £18,995 ex VAT.
