When Tesla rolled-out its 8.0 software update, it dramatically overhauled the Autopilot system and as it turns out, tweaked numerous other functions of firm’s cars.
One particularly interesting update the new software brought with it was an improvement in the operation of the Model X’s infamous falcon rear doors.
As detailed in the video after the jump, the falcon doors now open faster than ever before, going from fully closed to fully open in 5.1 seconds, a full 1.5 seconds quicker than previously.
Sure, this isn’t a life-changing improvement to the car but it once again serves as the perfect demonstration of the power of over-the-air updates. Whereas the vast majority of the population have to take their vehicles to dealers to be updated and improved, Tesla owners can do it from the comfort of their own home and instantly enjoy the benefits of more intelligent software.
Alongside Autopilot and falcon door improvements, another key update of v8.0 is ‘Cabin Overheat Protection’. It operates by automatically turning on the air conditioning when the cabin of the model hits 105 degrees Farenheit (40 degrees Celsius), helping to ensure that even in the hottest climates, the firm’s models can be fully enjoyed.
