Two days ago, The Weeknd dropped the music video for his latest single, ‘Starboy’, a song which has already become the most-streamed song on its weekend (…) release in North American history.
Representing a musical and lyrical shift for the rapidly-rising star, the new song is unlike any other from his breakthrough album Beauty Behind The Madness. Of most interest to us though, is the singer’s love for nice cars.
Featured prominently in the latter third of the music video is The Weeknd’s very own McLaren P1, filmed cruising up the stunning roads of Mulholland Highway. The British hybrid hypercar was also featured on the promo poster for the music video and is mentioned in the second lyric of the song, “P1 cleaner than your church shoes, ah”, he sings.
It’s not only the P1 the singer loves. Also included in the song and music video is his red Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster, mentioned in the second verse “Pull off in that Roadster SV, ah”. Even his Bentley Mulsanne gets a mention – “I’m in the blue Mulsanne bumping New Edition”.
Top honors go to “We don’t pray for love, we just pray for cars”. Amen.
