Few classic sports cars developed by Porsche are within reach by the average Joe, but this 924 is one of them.
Leaving the factory in 1981, five years after initial assembly started, the vehicle features a front-mounted, water cooled 2.0-liter engine, made by Audi and tweaked by Porsche to develop 125 horsepower. The output is sent to a rear-mounted gearbox, which contributes to a near perfect weight balance and results in “excellent handling”, as the vendor, SilverstoneAuction, states.
Supplied new to Verona, Italy, its first owner, an Air Italia pilot, enjoyed it mostly during holidays and continued to use it for about 10 years, when it entered storage in the family garage, with its odometer indicating just 10,000 km (6,214 miles). It remained hidden away until 2015, when it was bought a collector in the Netherlands, and just recently it arrived in the UK.
In its current condition, the Porsche 924 is as original as it can be, and despite 35 summers have passed over it, its odometer shows just 10,220 km (6,350 miles). Several thousand pounds later, it went through a complete checkup and it’s now ready for a new owner, who will probably have to pay between £15,000 and £20,000 ($19,180-$25,570) during the Porsche Sale, on October 15, before taking it home.
