This accident occurred near an industrial area on the Leningrad highway in Murmansk, Russia, where an old Toyota RAV4 SUV sideswiped an incoming truck.
The damage to the RAV4, as you can see, is substantial. The driver and passenger were lucky as far as we can tell, especially since crashing into a large truck rarely ends well for the smaller vehicle.
As for why the SUV ran so wide while changing direction, it may have something to do with the fact that it was speeding past the dashcam vehicle while on the 2nd lane, cut through the first lane and made a sharp right turn towards the exit.
Add the wet road and a bit of understeer to the mix and you could say that the driver was asking for trouble by not adjusting his speed to the conditions outside.
Also, is it us or did the RAV4 hit the truck directly in the fuel tank? Most of these old trucks have very little (if any) protection around the fuel tanks, making them extremely vulnerable in case of a collision.
In other words, this could have been much, much worse.
