Toyota Motor North America is conducting a safety campaign that concerns certain 2016 and 2017 model year Prius models.
According to the automaker, there are approximately 92,000 units in which the parking brakes could become inoperative.
“If this occurs and the driver exits the vehicle while the transmission is in a gear other than ‘Park’ while the ignition is on, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of a crash“, as the car company writes in the short press release.
The car manufacturer will start notifying all known owners of the involved vehicles from November, by first class mail and, without mentioning when the affected 2016-2017 Toyota Prius were assembled, states that its dealers will “add clips on the top of the brake cable dust boots to prevent the cable from becoming inoperative“, free of charge.
In order to find out if their cars are involved in this new safety campaign, Toyota recommends owners to check their vehicles’ status by visiting its official website and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
