VW has released the first teaser video of their upcoming mid-sized seven-seater SUV, rumoured to be called Atlas, before its public debut at the LA Auto Show.
The new VW Atlas is the brand’s way of showing how important is the US market to them. Inspired by the CrossBlue concept, VW’s new SUV will offer seating for seven in a body that’s almost the same size with the Audi Q7.
The new model, which will sit between the also upcoming Tiguan LWB and the Touareg, is based on the modular MQB platform making it the first US-built Volkswagen with these underpinnings.
Earlier we had the chance to show you some photos of the Chinese model as it was spotted completely undisguised. The overall boxy design will not thrill anyone, that’s for sure, but despite this VW is expecting to gain a lot of customers once the model hits the US market.
VW reportedly chose the Atlas name for their new mid-sized SUV, ditching their traditional SUV naming strategy in order to give the car an easier to pronounce name unique to the North American market. The same report says that the company will reveal the new Atlas on October 27 in California, so stay tuned for more.
