Developed in a time when the Germans were looking for a more approachable 911 without dropping its high-quality and high-performance reputation, the Porsche 912 was first available across Europe in 1965.

Powered by a 1.6-liter engine rated at 90 horsepower, the sports car quickly became more popular than the 911 and, in 1966, managed to outsell its six-cylinder sibling by no less than 188 percent, mainly due to its popularity on the other side of the Altantic, where it became a market leader.

Pictured here is a 1968-made example, which is believed to have been delivered from Germany to Sacramento during the same year, only to be taken to the United Kingdom a few months ago. SilverstoneAuctions are responsible for finding it a new home, during the Classic Motor Show Sale in Birmingham on November 12, when it is estimated to fetch between £24,000 and £28,000 ($30,035-$35,040).

Unlike most classic cars set to go under the hammer, this Porsche 912 lacks a complete history file, but it’s said to have been driven for 89,757 miles (144,450 km) and be accompanied by an MoT valid until October, 2017.
