It almost seems that no matter how hard Jaguar try to succeed at the compact executive and mid-size executive saloon game, neither the XE nor the XF have what it takes to lead their respective segments.
The latter, being reviewed here, is an excellent all-around saloon. However, there are quite a few things that still keep it from outright surpassing its German rivals, such as overall quality.
While, for instance, most of the cabin is covered in nice, soft touch materials, there are a few places where corners have been cut – and, in this class, you expect the best.
Overall, though, the XF’s talents shine through and its strong points more than make up for any minor shortcomings. Besides, it’s one of the most dynamic to drive in its class, and to some buyers that goes a long way in proving a car’s worth.
