If you were to visit Iceland, what kind of cars would you expect to see on the road? The Skoda Octavia, it turns out, is the most popular, accounting for just under 5 percent market share, or 686 out of the 14,000 new cars sold there last year. The Corvette, meanwhile, is hardly the top-selling model, but that’s what this guy drives.
You can get some Chevrolets in Iceland, mind you, but they’re limited to models like the Spark, Cruze, and Trax. The handful of ‘Vettes on the North Atlantic island, then, were all privately imported.
Fortunately Sigfús B. Sverrisson had the wherewithal to bring one into the country, having been raised the grandson of Iceland’s importer of Volkswagens, Audis, and Land Rovers.
His is a C3 from 1982, stripped of all brightwork and emblems and resplendent in pure, clean white. He fell in love with the all-American sports car while visiting the United States as a child, planting a seed that would sprout decades later.
