The 1990 Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is arguably one of the most iconic performance models that came out of Stuttgart in the previous century, not to mention one of the most dramatic looking vehicles ever to wear the three-pointed star.
Mercedes only build 502 examples and this particular one is number 28 with 41,000km (25,5k miles) on the clock. The entire production run was finished in ‘Blauschwarz’ metallic paint, with the interior featuring Black Anthracite leather, wood trim, a fire extinguisher, heated front seats and of course a dogleg manual gearbox.
The Evo II models are powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 232hp (235PS). 0-62mph comes in 7.1 seconds while top speed was set at 155mph (250km/h). These numbers might sound average today but the truth is that the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II was one of the fastest four-door models of that era.
Described as being in ‘wonderfully original condition’, this Evo II comes with a service book and even retains the original Mercedes factory stickers in the windscreen. Unlike previous examples we featured here, this one is probably going to a new home for a more affordable price, with Silverstone Auctions estimating a sale between £100,000 to £115,000.
The car will be auctioned at the Classic Motor Show sale at Birmingham, UK on November 12.
