The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has published the last round of safety ratings for 2016, with ratings ranging from 3 to 5 stars.
Unveiled earlier this year as Audi’s smallest crossover, the all-new Q2 is among those that were awarded with a 5-star safety rating. The baby-SUV excelled in Adult Occupant protection, where it scored 93 percent, while boasting an 86 percent score in Child Occupant, 70 percent in Pedestrian and 70 percent in the Safety Assist category.
Billed as the first production car to benefit from three electrified powertrains, the Hyundai Ioniq impressed in Euro NCAP’s tests as well by posting a 91 percent score in Adult Occupant protection and 80 percent in Child Occupant. The eco-friendly car is fitted with standard automatic emergency braking, lane assist and speed assistance systems, which came in handy in the Safety Assist chapter, where it scored 82 percent.
Available for order across selected European markets, the new Ford Edge is another 5-star vehicle, thanks to its numerous standard driver assist systems that helped it post a 89 percent score in the Safety Assist. For Adult Occupant, Child Occupant and Pedestrian, the SUV was rated at 85%, 76% and 67%, respectively.
The last 5-star vehicle is the Suzuki Ignis, equipped with the optional safety package. However, if you order the compact crossover without it, the rating drops to just 3 stars, as it lacks most safety systems in its base version.
Two SsangYong models round up the list – the Tivoli and XLV, both awarded with three stars in their entry-level versions, but if you get them with the optional safety pack, the SUVs will add up another star.
