Following a series of leaked images and scoops, BMW has officially dropped the curtain for the new 1-Series Sedan.

Aimed specifically at the Chinese market and developed on the brand’s global platform, the compact four-door is on display at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show, where it hopes to attract a few potential customers, from the young generation.

The all-new BMW 1 Series Sedan is the youngest BMW in the product portfolio. And we have strong confidence in this exclusive model as it is born ‘In the Right Time, At the Right Place, and For the Right People’. Premium compact cars are the fastest growing segment — this is ‘the Right Time’. Young generation from China is becoming the mainstream consumers of premium cars — this means ‘the Right Place’, developing and tailor-made a product exclusively according to Chinese young customers’ requirement — this refers to ‘the Right People’“, said BMW Brilliance automotive Ltd Senior V of Sales and Marketing, Jochen Goller.

On the visual front, it’s easily identifiable as a BMW, bringing the double kidney grille, double round headlights with LED technology, L-shaped taillights, long hood, and short overhangs, while inside, consumers are greeted by an 8.8-inch LED central screen for the iDrive system, full-color head-up display, dual-zone climate control and leather trim, among others.

BMW has yet to announce the official trim level details, but states that the new 1-Series Sedan is also available with Lane Departure Warning, Collision Warning, Pedestrian Warning, and Emergency Assistance function.

Power across the range is provided by the latest 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbo engines, mated with a six-speed, and eight-speed Steptronic transmission, respectively. Additionally, the car also benefits from auto stop/start and brake energy regeneration, which work together with one of the three driving modes – Comfort, Sport, and Eco Pro, to drop the average fuel consumption to 5.5 lt/100 km (42.77 mpg US).
